‘Fine Wind, Clear Morning’/’Red Fuji’ Hokusai Pocket Square
Japanese art has a special place in our ‘Masterpieces’ pocket square collection, with a special focus on Ukiyo-e art.
This season, we are back to Hokusai, one of the most famous (if not the most famous) Japanese artists. The pocket square features ‘Fine Wind, Clear Morning’ woodblock print, part of his Thirty-six Views of Mount Fuji series (c. 1830-1832). The artwork is also known as ‘Red Fuji’, since it depicts the Japanese holy mountain in a very specific look - in early autumn when, as the title specifies, the wind is southerly and the sky is clear, the rising sun can turn Mount Fuji red.
We have printed the design in England on a breezy cotton/cashmere/modal mix to fully showcase the delicate red, blue, green and white tones that perfectly complement our seasonal tailoring. As with all our pocket squares, the edges are hand-rolled by our skilled craftswomen here in Katowice.
